The exhibit took visitors through the history of our African-American pioneers in Southwest Florida from the 1870’s. They learned who was influential in the development of the African-American communities of Safety Hill (later Dunbar), Charleston Heights and Harlem Heights as well as some of the other local communities. From politicians to big name entertainers they learned who came to visit Fort Myers in the 1900s. Curated by SWFLHS member Yvonne Hill.
